I am Mounia Benghazi, CEO of Sustainable Pharma (formerly Oldpharma).
With a PhD in Environmental Engineering and over 20 years of expertise in the olive oil industry, I have also spent 6 years empowering women’s cooperatives in the Fès-Meknes region of Morocco. My journey reflects a deep commitment to innovation and sustainable development.
Today, my groundbreaking project, Nutri'Circul, merges entrepreneurship with sustainability, addressing global environmental challenges by transforming them into economic opportunities. By recycling agricultural waste, we create high-value products—including pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and food ingredients—all within a zero-waste industrial model. This approach aligns with six Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and sets a new standard for circular economy practices.
I am honored to have been nominated for the prestigious Earthshot Prize, a recognition of our work's impact and potential to drive meaningful change on a global scale. Together, we are shaping a more sustainable future, where innovation meets responsibility.
My ambition is to demonstrate that sustainability can not only protect our planet, but also create value and generate positive impact for communities.
We valorize various natural resources from Morocco, including aromatic and medicinal plants, fruit trees and even waste (circular economy), to create added value with total respect for women, men and nature. We produce Essential Oils (HE), Concrete Oils (CC), Absolute Oils (ABS), Floral Waters (EF), Dried Plants (PS), Vegetable Oils (HV), activated vegetable charcoal, vitamin E, plant fertilizers, natural food flavoring :
Our products are all eco-designed with a negligible carbon footprint.
Issues :
The vast majority of these small-scale farmers live in precarious conditions, and make enormous efforts to create top-of-the-range products whose impeccable quality could enable them to break into the most refined markets.
The question is:
Have these regional products
been properly promoted?
Our objectives:
Conservation of bio-diversity.
Promoting local products.
Research and development - Innovation.
Solidarity-based green economy.
Capacity building.
Beneficiaries ?

Morocco's geographical contrasts offer a wide range of Mediterranean bio-climates, resulting in a rich flora of over 4,200 species and varied vegetation with a high degree of endemism.
There are an estimated 500 to 600 species of aromatic and/or medicinal interest, many of them endemic.
We have a range of vegetable and essential oils,
plant extracts...
